Religious Education and Worship in Portsmouth Diocese

“For all children religious education is a proper subject in its own right in the school’s curriculum. It is a rigorous academic discipline as any other subject. For those already engaged in the journey of faith, religious education will be catechesis, and for some children and young people religious education will be evangelisation, the first opportunity to hear the good news of the gospel.”  Curriculum Directory for Catholic Schools (Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales 1996)

RE is a core subject and as such we dedicate 10% of the timetable to its teaching.  As advised by Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth, we follow the God Matters programme of study.

The children hear scripture from the Old and New Testaments, and learn about the life of Jesus and other important figures in His life.

The rituals, symbolism and traditions of the Catholic church are taught during RE lessons, and these are brought to life when we visit our Local Church and celebrate mass.

We want our children to experience life lived with Christ at its heart, and to this end, all the adults in the school endeavour to live everyday as Jesus would have us live.  In all of our interactions we look for Christ in each and every person and treat all with dignity and respect.

We put our faith into action by serving each other, the local community and responding to national and international requests for support.  The children look after their school environment and are encouraged to think about how they can become stewards to the wider community.
